Porsche Hypes Cajun in Detroit
Our favorite Forbes reporter Hannah Elliott had a chat with Porsche CEO Matthias Müller. Here’s the scoop on what’s rumored at the German auto maker:
As for new offerings from Porsche, something based-on-but-smaller-than the Boxster (built on a VW platform, possibly with an inline-four engine), will come in the next year or two. There’s also a small SUV called the “Cajun” (pronounced “kah-YOON”) in the works. Müller said he realized they’ll have to think of a new name for the production version after American colleagues started pronouncing it “kay-jun”.
Müller’s broader goal with Porsche is to change its pacing.
“The problem of Porsche today is one of lifecycle,” Müller said. “We have the Carrera, the Cayman and the Boxster, and the lifecycle of those cars is very close together.”
That proximity means Porsche goes years without brand-new products to flaunt at auto shows and showrooms – Müller wants to launch one big new product every year with other “smaller” offerings (facelifts, etc.) happening every year and a half or so.
