Porsche Races into Trucking Industry
Porsche, the German Auto maker best known for producing small, luxurious and expensive sports cars has thrown in a bid to buy their own line of Semi-Tractor Trailers. Big riggin’s just got a whole lot fancier. But how will the boys riding the Interstates through ‘Bama with Kenny Chesney on their satellite radio feel?
Porsche has made more than one attempt to purchase Swedish truck builder Scania. Thanks to plummeting stock prices over at the trucking company, a take over by Porsche may be imminent. Just how much is a trucking company worth? Porsche is ready to drop about $3.6 billion in order to get into the hauling business. A relatively small price in a world where rising fuel and material costs could make truck driving a risky venture.

Sadly we shouldn’t expect any Porsche Semi’s in the future, as the auto maker has dropped hints that they would sell their shares of Scania back to Volkswagen, who is the majority owner of the truck company (with a 69% stake) – is all this semi-tractor trailer business just a shot at Porsche grabbing onto some more of that VW goodness?
